Contest Information

The Kakkis EveryLife Foundation invites artists to participate in the first annual EveryLife Art Contest.

PURPOSE: To empower artists affected by Rare Diseases to express their unique struggle with a rare disease.

PRIZES: Two Grand Prizes will be awarded in each age group.

Age Groups:   Children 5-11: $100 Visa Gift Card
Teens 12-17: $250 Visa Gift Card
Adults 18+: $500 Visa Gift Card

Each Grand Prize winner will also receive a Flip Video camera. Winners will use the Flip Video to record their story about being an artist affected by a rare disease. The artists’ video stories will be posted on the Kakkis EveryLife Foundations Website.

Awards for Outstanding Art: All contestants with works of outstanding art will receive $25 Visa Gift Card.

ELIGIBILITY: The EveryLife Art Competition is open to all artists affected by a Rare Disease ages 5 and older. Artists may have a Rare or Undiagnosed Disease or may be close friends, family members, or care takers of those with a Rare or Undiagnosed Disease. A Rare Disease is one that affects less than 200,000 people in the United State. For a list of Rare Diseases go to http://www.rarediseases.org/search/rdblist.html. International entries are accepted. Employees or Board Members of the Kakkis EveryLife Foundation or their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.

Work must be accompanied by an entry form, including a brief statement (250 words or less) offering insight into the artist's work and their experience as an artist with a rare disease. For Children 11 and under, the parent or guardian may submit statement.

Limit of 3 pieces of art may be submitted per artist.

All works submitted must be original artwork created exclusively by the entrant. The artist's name and art may be used in promotions, publications/electronic media or exhibitions carried out by the Kakkis EveryLife Foundation. A completed entry form warrants a participant’s work is his or her own creation and does not infringe upon other copyrighted works.

Maximum height of work is 48 inches, maximum width is 72 inches and maximum weight, including framing is 50 lbs. Two-dimensional artworks in the following media will be considered: paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, encaustic; drawings in pencil, pastels, pen and ink, etc.; traditional and digital photography and; printmaking, etchings, mixed media and digitally created works.

DEADLINE: Entries must be received by 5pm on December 31, 2009.

TERMS OF USE: The six Grand Prize works of art will be displayed in the Kakkis EveryLife Foundation’s collection for up to 1 year. The Kakkis EveryLife Foundation will have usage rights on the grand prize artwork and may reproduce, publish, modify, edit, and distribute replications of the art. Proceeds from the replications cannot be used for profit. Each entry form has a release statement covering the use of the artwork by Kakkis EveryLife Foundation. The artist or parent or legal guardian for each entered work must sign this release in order to be entered in the contest.

JUDGING: The Kakkis EveryLife Foundation’s Board of Directors will select the winning entries.

NOTIFICATION: The winning artists and five finalists in each age group will be announced no later than March 1, 2010. Results will be posted online on or before this date on the Kakkis Foundation website (www.kakkis.org). Notification will be made via email and or phone. Prizes will be shipped via mail.

FEES: There are no entry fees to submit artwork for the EveryLife Art Contest. The Kakkis EveryLife Foundation will pay for shipping & handling of the winning art pieces.

IMAGE PRESENTATION FOR JUDGING: Artwork submitted for judging should be representative prints or digital images. Do not send originals. Artists are encouraged to submit high-quality images that are well photographed with evenly distributed lighting and accurate color.

Prints: Should be mailed and should be no larger than 8.5" x 11". Digital (ink jet, laser etc.) or photographic prints are accepted. Artist name, title, size and media should be on the front or back of the print. A printed application should also be included. Prints will not be returned.

Digital files: May be sent on CD or zip drive via mail, emailed or uploaded on the Kakkis.org website. Please send as a JPEG or TIFF file. Digital images should be high quality to ensure image can be printed as an 8.5" x 11" but should not exceed 10MB. File names should read as follows: example: titleofwork_artistname.jpg. Digital files must be sent along with the artist’s entry form. If you do not receive a reply within 24 hours of submission, please resubmit.
